Professor Hickson talks about prevention of errors as a way to avoid litigation. Identifying high risk physicians is a useful way of targeting strategies to reduce litigation. He goes on to describe the interventions that are used at his hospital to identify high risk physicians, followed by the strategies used to deal with these high risk physicians. This usually begins with an informal discussion and escalating if required. Most people respond well to the early intervention measures.
